Overview of your tour

Prepare for an extraordinary journey combining two of Croatia's most magnificent UNESCO World Heritage sites with an unforgettable culinary experience. In Split, more than 1,700 years of history come alive as you explore Diocletian's Palace – the only Roman imperial residence in the world where 800 people still live and work within its ancient walls. This remarkable site showcases an unprecedented fusion of Roman grandeur, medieval charm, and vibrant modern life. Winding alleys lead to sun-drenched squares where locals sip coffee beside 4th-century Roman columns.

Just up the coast, the medieval island town of Trogir awaits, its 13th-century Cathedral rivaling France's Chartres in architectural splendor. Between these historic treasures, we'll enjoy a fabulous wine-paired lunch at a boutique hilltop winery with sweeping coastal views. This carefully curated day seamlessly blends history, architecture, and gastronomy into an unforgettable Dalmatian experience that engages all your senses.

Your tour itinerary

We begin our adventure in enchanting Trogir, crossing to its island setting where 2,300 years of continuous urban tradition unfold before us. During our 90-minute exploration, we'll discover how Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque builders created this architectural masterpiece. The Cathedral of St. Lawrence forms the heart of our visit, its extraordinary portal carved by Master Radovan in 1240 is its own magical mystery tour in stone. We'll explore hidden courtyards and wander lanes where medieval nobles once walked.

Following our historic immersion, we'll take a winding back road and climb up into the hills above the coast for a truly memorable culinary experience. Sitting high above Split's airport (!), we'll savor a three-course menu where each dish pairs perfectly with wines from their surrounding vineyards. Your sommelier will guide you through tastings of indigenous Croatian varieties while you enjoy the stunning view all the way back to Split.

After lunch, we'll explore Split's remarkable Diocletian's Palace, where Roman arches frame bustling cafes and shops. We'll descend into the remarkably preserved basement halls that mirror the emperor's long-lost apartments above, then visit the remarkable interior of the Cathedral of St. Domnius – originally built as Diocletian's mausoleum and now the oldest cathedral still in daily use anywhere on Earth.

Throughout our journey, we'll reveal hidden corners and local secrets that bring these extraordinary sites to life, creating a perfect blend of cultural discovery and culinary delight.

The 13thC portal of Trogir's St. Lawrence Cathedral is only the beginning of this astonishing sacral monument

We had a lovely time with Robert. He is very passionate about the history of Croatia and of Split. He provides a detailed and informative tour of Split, Diocletian’s Palace and of Trojir. We also had a wonderful wine tasting to conclude our experience. We would recommend Robert to anyone wanting to learn more about Split and Croatia.

Our tour guide, Robert, in Split was exceptional and made our trip unforgettable. He was highly knowledgeable, with engaging personality and witty stories ... taking us to hidden local treasures we wouldn't have discovered on our own. He prepared a delicious lunch for us at his home, taking into account our dietary needs ... Thank you, Robert, for your enthusiasm and the wonderful experience!

We spent an incredibly fascinating couple of hours exploring the Diocletian Palace with Robert gaining amazing insights we would not have gotten from other or larger group tours. Robert’s passion and knowledge for architecture, history and the craftsmanship made for one of the most memorable experiences of our trip. Robert is a great guy to chat with and learn from with his genuine personality and humour. We can’t wait to return for more!

Back home now and slowly getting on top of things, we were very happy with the tour, thank you. Especially Trogir, which we'd not have got to otherwise.  Great value, and enjoyed your insights and opinions! The next morning we walked out to the Mestrovic Gallery.  Although the house was closed there was enough of interest in the garden and the former church nearby (included in the currently half-price ticket) to make the trip worthwhile.

We truly enjoyed Robert's private tour of Trogir and appreciated his flexibility ... Robert adjusted his tour of Trogir to accommodate my friend's slower mobility as we walked through town. I truly appreciated Robert's perspective and interpretation of the artwork. I would like to add that Robert was an exceptional host! He also worked with the winery to take us early to get us back to our cruise ship on time! I highly recommend reserving Robert for your tour!!

Robert is a fascinating man - we were very impressed! He is extremely knowledgeable - knows his history and also offered little known features of the Palace. A highlight was our trip to the fish market to select our fish for lunch. The restaurant he selected to enjoy our fish and shrimp dish was expertly prepared - absolutely delicious! Robert, thank you, thank you! We enjoyed our time with you so very much!

This was a terrific tour, combining an interesting and comprehensive tour of the old city and its history, along with a fantastic food experience where Robert our guide walked us through the local fish market and helped us to select a variety of fresh seafood and then later on the tour had them cooked and served to us at a wonderful local restaurant for our lunch. We enjoyed every aspect of the tour and highly recommend Robert.

Robert helped our entire group of 7 appreciate the construction and significance of the historic palace. His love for the city and people became readily apparent as he guided us thru the old walls and alleyways, carefully pointing out minute details. We appreciated his knowledgeable study, and selected local treat of donut like sweet shared with our coffee/tea stop. Highly recommend Robert as your guide to tour Split.

Our tour of Split and Trogir with Robert and Nives was fantastic. As we planned this tour months in advance , he was great at communicating with us of any necessary changes and did a great job of accommodating us. The tour itself was great and they were extremely knowledgeable of the area and the history of each place visited. My wife and I both highly recommend this great tour.

I have travelled extensively over the past 40 years and Robert and Rada were the best guides I have ever had. We had a group of 8 touring Trogir and Split Croatia with a delicious and relaxing lunch at the winery. Robert was informative and entertaining and a great guy. I would highly recommend touring with them.

Incredible tour and I learned so much. Luka is so deeply knowledgeable about Split, Croatian and European history. I have a better understanding now of the history of this beautiful place and will be able to keep learning on my own.

The Diocletian Palace is huge and complex. Thanks to Robert and his fellow guide/friend, Rada, we got to see all of it along with an understanding of the Palace's evolution to the present. Old Split is truly alive. Robert is one of a kind and very entertaining and Rada indulged my passion for architecture along with the history. Wonderful tour!

Nives was an amazing tour guide in Split. She helped me with information before the tour so we could customize it and make it exactly what we wanted.
