I have travelled extensively over the past 40 years and Robert and Rada were the best guides I have ever had. We had a group of 8 touring Trogir and Split Croatia with a delicious and relaxing lunch at the winery. Robert was informative and entertaining and a great guy. I would highly recommend touring with them.

Trogir's 13thC St. Lawrence Cathedral is astonishing

Overview of your tour

In Split, discover the world's only inhabited Roman imperial palace, where ancient imperial corridors now house bustling cafes and local artisans. This UNESCO World Heritage site uniquely preserves daily life within its 1,700-year-old walls, where children play soccer among Roman ruins and locals shop at vibrant farmers' and fish markets. Diocletian's Palace, the world's best preserved late Roman period complex, remains a living monument where boutiques and bistros seamlessly blend with ancient stones, creating an unparalleled historic atmosphere.

Just a short coastal drive away, Trogir rises from its island setting, a medieval jewel recognized by UNESCO for its exceptional 13th-17thC architecture and urban design. This pocket-sized town encapsulates centuries of history within its walls, where sun-drenched waterfront promenades lead to narrow cobbled alleys. Here, Renaissance mansions and Romanesque churches tell the story of medieval glory, while contemporary cafes buzz with local life. Experience how these two remarkable coastal towns maintain their authentic Dalmatian spirit while preserving their extraordinary heritage.

Your tour itinerary

Our full-day journey begins in Split's Old Town, where we'll explore the magnificent Diocletian's Palace complex. Starting in the Palace's substructure, we'll discover the foundations that supported imperial life. Above ground, we'll visit the transformed Mausoleum of the Roman Emperor which evolved into the oldest Cathedral on the planet still in daily use in its original location and explore the Temple of Jupiter before reaching the stunning Peristyle square, with its 3500 year old columns looted from Egypt and a rare intact sphinx. Our walk continues through the medieval and Renaissance maze of the Old Town, including the historic Jewish Ghetto and the grand Pjaca square, where ancient architecture frames modern city life.

A scenic half-hour drive brings us to our second UNESCO site, Trogir, where centuries of history unfold around its central square. We'll talk about what made this tiny island mercantile center so important and how difficult life was living in such close quarters. Off the beaten track we''ll see a sumptuous 15thC courtyard of one of the town's first families as well as his brother's less glamorous but outstanding entry, Then we'll explore the astonishing 13thC Cathedral of St. Lawrence, admire the sophisticated Town Hall and Town Loggia and marvel at the historic Clock Tower. Our winding cobblestone path leads to a waterfront promenade, through the South gate, anchored on its western point by the imposing Kamerlengo Fortress. Another half-hour drive returns us to Split.

Throughout the day, we can pause for coffee or even lunch whenever you wish. As a food enthusiast, your guide can recommend the best local establishments that serve authentic, high-quality Dalmatian cuisine.

Robert exceeded expectations and we had an amazing fay exploring Split and Trogir. He is enthusiastic about the history and treasures of the area and you will get the stories behind the artifacts. The best was an amazing lunch at a hilltop vineyard overlooking the water. The food and wine were delicious! Highly recommend Robert as your guide!

Robert’s historical, architectural and city knowledge for both Trogir and Split was outstanding. We had a blast with his insights, humour, stories, opinions on a far ranging set of fronts. You will not be disappointed landing Robert!! Grab him if he’s available….

We had a lovely time with Robert. He is very passionate about the history of Croatia and of Split. He provides a detailed and informative tour of Split, Diocletian’s Palace and of Trojir. We also had a wonderful wine tasting to conclude our experience. We would recommend Robert to anyone wanting to learn more about Split and Croatia.

Our tour guide, Robert, in Split was exceptional and made our trip unforgettable. He was highly knowledgeable, with engaging personality and witty stories ... taking us to hidden local treasures we wouldn't have discovered on our own. He prepared a delicious lunch for us at his home, taking into account our dietary needs ... Thank you, Robert, for your enthusiasm and the wonderful experience!

We spent an incredibly fascinating couple of hours exploring the Diocletian Palace with Robert gaining amazing insights we would not have gotten from other or larger group tours. Robert’s passion and knowledge for architecture, history and the craftsmanship made for one of the most memorable experiences of our trip. Robert is a great guy to chat with and learn from with his genuine personality and humour. We can’t wait to return for more!

Back home now and slowly getting on top of things, we were very happy with the tour, thank you. Especially Trogir, which we'd not have got to otherwise.  Great value, and enjoyed your insights and opinions! The next morning we walked out to the Mestrovic Gallery.  Although the house was closed there was enough of interest in the garden and the former church nearby (included in the currently half-price ticket) to make the trip worthwhile.

We truly enjoyed Robert's private tour of Trogir and appreciated his flexibility ... Robert adjusted his tour of Trogir to accommodate my friend's slower mobility as we walked through town. I truly appreciated Robert's perspective and interpretation of the artwork. I would like to add that Robert was an exceptional host! He also worked with the winery to take us early to get us back to our cruise ship on time! I highly recommend reserving Robert for your tour!!

Robert is a fascinating man - we were very impressed! He is extremely knowledgeable - knows his history and also offered little known features of the Palace. A highlight was our trip to the fish market to select our fish for lunch. The restaurant he selected to enjoy our fish and shrimp dish was expertly prepared - absolutely delicious! Robert, thank you, thank you! We enjoyed our time with you so very much!

This was a terrific tour, combining an interesting and comprehensive tour of the old city and its history, along with a fantastic food experience where Robert our guide walked us through the local fish market and helped us to select a variety of fresh seafood and then later on the tour had them cooked and served to us at a wonderful local restaurant for our lunch. We enjoyed every aspect of the tour and highly recommend Robert.

Robert helped our entire group of 7 appreciate the construction and significance of the historic palace. His love for the city and people became readily apparent as he guided us thru the old walls and alleyways, carefully pointing out minute details. We appreciated his knowledgeable study, and selected local treat of donut like sweet shared with our coffee/tea stop. Highly recommend Robert as your guide to tour Split.

Our tour of Split and Trogir with Robert and Nives was fantastic. As we planned this tour months in advance , he was great at communicating with us of any necessary changes and did a great job of accommodating us. The tour itself was great and they were extremely knowledgeable of the area and the history of each place visited. My wife and I both highly recommend this great tour.

Incredible tour and I learned so much. Luka is so deeply knowledgeable about Split, Croatian and European history. I have a better understanding now of the history of this beautiful place and will be able to keep learning on my own.

The Diocletian Palace is huge and complex. Thanks to Robert and his fellow guide/friend, Rada, we got to see all of it along with an understanding of the Palace's evolution to the present. Old Split is truly alive. Robert is one of a kind and very entertaining and Rada indulged my passion for architecture along with the history. Wonderful tour!

Nives was an amazing tour guide in Split. She helped me with information before the tour so we could customize it and make it exactly what we wanted.
